Residents' strike; docs seek an early solution

Resident doctors under the banner of the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA)-India have sought early solutions to the issue of NEET-PG counselling.

The doctors reiterated that due to delay in NEET-PG admissions they are overburdened which is affecting their physical and mental health.

Further emergence of the Omicron variant has worried them as there would be a need for more doctors to handle the patients' load if a third wave strikes.

Speaking to DTMT, Dr Sunil Duchania, President, Resident Doctor Association, Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), said, “Considering the possibility of a third wave of COVID19 in wake of the Omicron variant, the government should resolve this issue at the earliest. There is already a shortage of resident doctors and the absence of a new batch of PG students (junior residents), the residents are overburdened. Therefore, the government should solve this issue on priority.”

Dr Sunil further pointed out that unless the government does something concrete on NEET-PG counselling admissions, the residents would return to work. Mere verbal assurance would not work, added Dr Sunil after meeting with Indian Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in a FORDA-India meeting at RML Hospital on December 6, 2021.
