NEW DELHI : VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi, organised a seminar and free diabetes check up camp on the occasion of World Diabetes Day.
The theme of World Diabetes day this year is ‘Diabetes and family’.
More than 300 persons who were above 30 years of age were screened. Those who were found at risk were given dietary and healthy lifestyle advice. Those who were found to have diabetes (around 6%), were tested for Hb A1c and given advice.
To create awareness about diabetes, educational activity on video regarding diagnosis of diabetes, its complications and foot care was displayed on two screens placed in the OPD and posters were displayed at different locations in the OPD related to symptoms of diabetes, food advice and lifestyle changes said Poonam Dhanda, PRO, Safdarjung Hospital.
The Medical Superintendent, Dr. Sunil Gupta, in his concluding lecture, advised the general public for lifestyle changes to combat this deadly disease.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Krishna Biswas, spoke about the risk of diabetes to create awareness among the people about the disease.
Dr. S. Sood stressed on building up a social movement to control diabetes.
Senior management officials and consultants from other departments were also present at the event.
