Delhi: Religious places to reopen with strict COVID norms

DTMT Network

The Delhi government has allowed the reopening of religious places in the national capital for devotees from October 1 with strict adherence to COVID guidelines and standard operating procedures.

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) issued new coronavirus guidelines on September 30.

Since April 19, religious places in Delhi were shut for devotees for more than five months, following the imposition of a lockdown due to the crippling second wave of coronavirus.

Although the DDMA directive allowed the entry of devotees to religious places, it restrained large gatherings there.

It also ordered the district magistrates and deputy commissioners of police to ensure strict compliance with COVID-appropriate behaviour because of the upcoming festivals.

The authority in its new guidelines stated that fairs, melas, food stalls, rallies, and processions will not be allowed during festivals in the national capital.

“Chhat pooja celebration shall not be allowed in public places and people are advised to celebrate the same at their homes,” the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) said in the official order.
