Kerala's Omicron toll rises to 591

With 63 more people having been confirmed to be infected by the Omicron variant, the total number of people infected by the variant has gone up to 591, a health official of the state said on January 18, 2022.


Of 591 cases, 401 persons arrived from 'low-risk' countries while  101 persons came from 'high-risk' countries,
70 of the persons acquired infection from the previously infected people and 19  reached the state from other Indian states, the official explained.
Meanwhile, the Education Minister of Puducherry, A Namassivayam has announced that all schools and colleges in the Union Territory will remain closed till January 31, 2022, in wake of the rising number of cases of COVID19.
Puducherry has reported 2,093 new cases and 3 deaths on January 18, 2022, taking the number of active cases to 10,393. The latest test positivity rate in the Union Territory stood at 34.72%, data released by the government show.
In Andhra Pradesh, former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has tested positive for COVID19.
 “I've tested positive for COVID with mild symptoms. I have quarantined myself at home and taking all the necessary precautions,” the former CM informed through a tweet
“I would request those who came in contact with me to get themselves tested at the earliest. Please be safe and take care,” he added.
