Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has once again revealed her fight with depression that she had gone through in 2014. The Padmawat actress widely praised for her courage to speak about her battle with this mental disorder, which is known as one of the biggest risk factors of suicide.
Speaking at an event in Mumbai during an interview, Deepika said that while battling with depression she was suicidal at times.
She credited her mother who supported her throughout her fight with the mental illness and recognized the signs and symptoms of the disorder.
Deepika said, “I would credit my mother for recognizing the sign and symptoms because it just happened out of the blue. I was on carrier high and everything was going well so there was no reason or no apparent reason why I should have felt the way I was feeling but I would have broken down for no reason. I was suicidal at times.”
“For anyone who has experienced mental illness it can be a lonely journey and I think that’s why I realized that speaking up is how I wanted to take that journey forward. It was my learning, probably my calling, where I felt like even if by speaking up I was able to impact just one life the purpose would be served,” she said.
