After an FIR was filed against the attackers, the doctors ended their protest.

Healthcare services came to a grinding halt at the Kasturba hospital in Delhi, as doctors struck work in protest against an assault on a lady doctor on December 4, 2017, in the emergency ward of the hospital.

Kasturba hospital is run by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC).

The protesting doctors said that a woman patient came to the emergency ward early in the morning. She was treated and given paracetamol tablets by a gynecologist. “After half an hour, a mob descended on the casualty and started misbehaving with a junior resident gynecologist. Two ladies pulled her hair, pushed her and abused her for not admitting the patient,” informed Dr Ms. Maruti Singh, Secretary, Municipal Corporation Doctors Association.

Dr Singh said a security guard deployed in the emergency was also assaulted adding that such violence is unacceptable.

She said that as of now doctors have stopped the protest as the administration has assured that a police post would be set up inside the hospital and security will be increased at the entrance of the emergency ward. An FIR has also been filed against the two women who attacked the doctor.

Dr DK Seth, Director Health Administration, NDMC, told DTMT that police has filed an FIR against the attackers. “We are constantly in touch with the police. They will soon arrest the culprits. I have asked the doctors to stop the protest considering the plight of patients coming to the hospital,” added Dr Seth.
