NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has made the production of the voter identity card of Delhi compulsory for patients seeking free tests and surgeries in the 48 notified private hospitals. Children will have to produce Delhi Voter I Card of their parents whose name is mentioned in the child's Aadhar card.

The bills will be paid by the Delhi government.

A notification issued by the Director General of Health Services, Delhi, says that new eligibility criteria is that the patient should be resident of Delhi on December 1, 2017, and  the only  document for domicile proof is now the voter identity card issued on or before December 1, 2017.

Children below 18 years of age would be eligible on basis of voter I'D proof of their parent (according to the name of parent mentioned on Aadhar card of child), it said.

It further said that only the Voter I Card is the document required for referral of patients for free tests and surgeries from February 1, 2018.

The order made it clear that from February 1, 2018, Aadhar Card will not be taken as I'D proof for Delhi residence. Aadhar card is to be taken from patients  for the purpose of Aadhar based biometric tracking.
