Delhi Govt. to add 1,716 beds in its 4 hospitals

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government will increase bed capacity in four of its hospitals -- Bhagwan Mahavir, Baba Saheb Ambedkar, Guru Gobind Singh and Sanjay Gandhi Memorial hospital -- from existing 1,225 to 2,941.

The Delhi cabinet has approved the construction of a hospital block at Guru Gobind Singh Hospital, Raghubir Nagar, at an estimated cost of Rs 172 crore, to increase the bed capacity of this facility to 572 beds. The hospital currently has 100 beds.

The cabinet also approved the construction of Mother and Child and screening OPD Block at Dr Baba Sahib Ambedkar Hospital, Rohini, at an estimated cost of Rs 195 crore. The plan will increase the bed capacity of this hospital to 963 from the existing 500 beds in the hospital.

The construction of Trauma Centre & Utility Block at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Mangolpuri, has also been approved at an estimated cost of Rs 118 crore, which will increase the bed capacity to 662, which is 300 beds at present.

Remodeling work at Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital in Pitampura has also been approved by the cabinet, at an estimated cost of Rs 173 crore, to increase the bed strength of this hospital to 744. The hospital currently has 325 beds.
