NEW DELHI: Non-compliance will be treated as contempt of court.

The Supreme Court of India on July 9, 2018, directed that the private hospitals in Delhi which are operating on subsidized government land will have to provide free treatment to patients belonging to economically weaker sections of the society.

The court said that it will monitor the functioning of private hospitals in this regard and any violation of this agreement between private hospitals and the government will be treated as contempt of the court.

Providing treatment to poor patients was one of the clauses in the agreement by which land was given to hospitals at a very cheap price.

The top court has also directed the Delhi government to file periodical reports on the compliance of its order.
