NEW DELHI: Sanitation workers under the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on October 6, 2018, called off their 13-day strike, which had crippled the garbage disposal system in East Delhi area, posing a major health hazard.

The announcement to end the stir, which began on September 23, 2018, to press for payment of their dues, was made by the union of sanitation workers of East Delhi Municipal corporations.

The leaders of the union said they have decided to resume work as the EDMC has issued a circular directing all the sanitation workers to resume work from October 6, 2018.

The EDMC issued directions stating that if any worker fails to resume work from October 6, that person will be removed from the post.

The circular stated, “All the sanitation workers are directed to resume duty from October 6, failing which they will be sacked from their post.”

"We have called off the strike and brought Delhi back on the tracks. The sanitation workers have resumed work on war footing and cleaned the East Delhi area on October 6, 2018," said union leader Sanjay Gahlot.
