Kerala is contributing 51 per cent in India’s daily COVID-19 count, while Maharashtra accounts for 16 per cent of infections, the Indian Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said on August 26, 2021.

While addressing the media in the national capital, Bhushan informed that Kerala has more than one lakh active cases while Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, have 10,000 to one lakh active cases.

The number of COVID-19 infections in Kerala climbed nearly 30% in the last 24 hours to over 31,000 cases as the state government indicated an ‘Onam spike’.

The state reported 215 fatalities along with a positivity rate of 19.03%.

Kerala on August 25, 2021 recorded 31,445 new infections, taking its total COVID count to 38, 83,429 and death toll to 19,972.

Earlier, the health secretary informed that RT-PCR arrangements have been made for more than 400 people who have been evacuated from Afghanistan, and some who have tested positive for COVID-19 have been isolated.

“Some even hospitalized. Many people have been quarantined at Chawala ITBP camp. They will remain there for fourteen days. In view of their symptoms, further decisions will be taken,” he added.

“We have made arrangements at all airports-be it civil airports or military airbases-to administer anti-polio vaccine to them because Pakistan and Afghanistan have wild polio,” he further added.
