CWG Village COVID center: 68% of beds occupied by children

Children are getting more admissions than elders to East Delhi’s CommonWealth Game Village COVID care center. All the children are asymptomatic while some have cold and cough, informed Dr Ravi from Doctors for You Foundation, which runs the center in association with Delhi government.

A total of 110 out of 450 beds are occupied by the COVID patients at the center. Around 75 out of 110 beds have been occupied by the children with 5 and 18 years of age group.

“Few children below five years of age have also been admitted to the center. Most of the children are asymptomatic while some have cough and cold. Cough and cold may be related due to change in weather,” he further added.

“It was expected as children were not vaccinated. Unvaccinated against COVID could be the cause of more children getting the infection this time. However, the vaccinated adult population is getting the infection but mostly it is asymptomatic and suffers from very mild infection,” Dr Vikram Gagneja, noted pediatrician, Manipal Hospital, Delhi, said.
