Molnupiravir should not be given to people of reproductive age group because it impacts fertilization, Dr NK Arora, Chairman of COVID19 Working Group of National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI).

Molnupiravir is an antiviral medication that inhibits the replication of certain RNA viruses.  It is used to treat COVID-19 in those infected by SARS-CoV-2.
“Molnupiravir medicine should be given to senior citizens particularly those with comorbid conditions. It prevents the chances of ICU admission. Its irrational use is dangerous,” he said while speaking to the media on January 11, 2022.
On the current COVID situation in India, Dr Arora said that IITs modeling shows that COVID cases will increase rapidly in coming days, which is, in fact, happening. COVID appropriate behavior and vaccination coverage are two important factors to contain its spread, he added.
On prevalence of Omicron variant, Dr Arora pointed out that there are three to four sub lineages of Omicron. These sub lineages could be different when it comes to diagnosis but their epidemiological behavior is the same, he said.
