DoP releases guidelines for Pharmaceutical Innovation and Entrepreneurship

With a vision to promote the Indian pharmaceutical sector as the global leader in quality medicines and to ensure the availability, accessibility and affordability of drugs and medical devices in the country, the Department of Pharmaceuticals has released common guidelines on pharmaceutical innovations and entrepreneurship for National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs).

 

In a statement released recently, the Department said that the Guidelines, finalised with the approval of the Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers have been forwarded to all NIPERs for taking up further steps for their speedy and effective implementation.

The guidelines aim to encourage the faculty members and students to pursue entrepreneurship; along with formulating policies and fostering an ecosystem to generate interdisciplinary ideas capable of being transformed into successful technologies, products, and services, the department said.

The policy guideline while aiming to establish a mechanism for technology development and technology transfer; also aims in creating an institutional framework for effective implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the policy; and to promote pharmaceutical innovation and entrepreneurship to foster the unmet therapeutic, socially impactful technologies, the statement added.

It may be recalled that the department had set up seven NIPERs as institutes of national importance all across the country for imparting quality education and conducting high-end research.

The department further informed that the NIPERs have recently launched a common Research portal for industry and researchers and have also prepared a Common Research Programme based on the national needs and their own expertise and facilities.

The department said that it is soon coming up with a policy to catalyse R&D and Innovation in the Pharma- MedTech sector in India.
