NEW DELHI: The World Health Organisation (WHO) has unveiled its ‘WHO Health Alert ' on WhatsApp, where people can get free prompt, reliable and official information 24 hours a day regarding coronavirus.

“Digital technology gives us an unprecedented opportunity for vital health information to go viral and spread faster than the pandemic, helping us save lives and protect the vulnerable,” said Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO in a statement.

He said, “When you text "hi" to +41 79 893 1892 over WhatsApp, you'll receive back a text from the WHO that includes a variety of menu items for the latest information on coronavirus update.”

“Anyone can also click on the WHO link on the homepage to open up a chat with the WHO Health Alert if you have WhatsApp installed,” the statement said.

The Health Alert will provide official information on topics such as how to protect yourself from infection, travel advice, and debunking coronavirus myths.
