Covid strain linked to S. Africa found in UK

DTMT NETWORK

Authorities in the UK have on December 23, 2020, found another new strain of corona virus, this one linked to South Africa. Authorities have claimed that this new strain is responsible for the spike in Covid cases in the country.

Informing the media on December 23, 2020, British Health Secretary Matt Hancock said two cases of another new variant of coronavirus have been detected. He thanked the impressive genomic capability of the South Africans due to which the virus' strain was detected.

He added that both people who tested Covid positive are contacts of cases who have travelled from South Africa over the past few weeks.

He pointed out that this new variant is highly concerning, because it is yet more transmissible, and it appears to have mutated further than the new variant discovered in the UK.
