China: Fujian sees 50 new COVID-19 cases; schools, tourist attractions shut

Fujian province of China recorded 50 new infections of coronavirus on September 15, 2021, while the province reported 152 cases in the last five days.

The Chinese media house reported that to phase stricter epidemic prevention and control measures, Fujian has shut down schools in multiple cities.

The province has sped up mass testing for coronavirus infections.

Tourist attractions were also shut down and large-scale gatherings like weddings were suspended.

The majority of the infections in the Fujian province were recorded from Putian city, as 33 infections were witnessed in the city.

Two chains of transmission were recorded in Putian city, one from Primary School and another one from the Xiesheng shoe-making factory, where 28 workers were found to have been infected.

The Chinese media reported that a worker from the factory informed the media that many of the infected workers who were close contacts of the first patient identified in the factory were “not feeling well” and “showed flu-like symptoms” before they tested positive for coronavirus.
