Omicron: Japan to bar entry of foreign arrivals

Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has announced a ban on the entry of foreign arrivals in wake of the spread of Omicron variant, which has been classified as Variant of Concern by the World Health Organization (WHO).
It may be noted that the Philippines has also barred the entry of foreign arrivals due to fear of spread of the new variant, which is said to be highly transmissible.
Some other countries have also banned the entry of foreigners due to fear of the new virus.
