Kerala: Youth who died of Monkey pox tested positive for disease in UAE

The 22-year-old youth who died of Monkeypox in Kerala developed the disease in UAE.

While speaking to the media on August 1, 2022, Kerala Health Minister Veena George said that a young boy returned from UAE on July 22, 2022.

She informed that the deceased was with his family when he developed a fever on July 26, 2022. He was admitted on July 27, 2022. On July he was moved to a ventilator. He got tested on July 19 for Monkey pox in UAE, the result of which was positive.

The person died on July 30. Health department teams went there. His samples were sent to NIV, tests results showed his was positive. Team was constituted and genome sequencing is being done at NIV, Pune.

“As per the protocol, 20 people who were identified as being at high risk are kept under observation. These include family members, friends and medical staff who might have come in contact with the deceased,” she added.
