AIIMS to install 100 POS machines for digital payments

  NEW DELHI: In view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to promote cashless transactions, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is installing at least 100 point of sale (POS) machines using debit/credit cards at all its cash counters in the Raj Kumari Amrit Kaur OPD Block and Centres. The machines will be operational in three weeks.

Speaking to DTMT, DDA official in AIIMS, V. Sriniwas (IAS) said, “For promoting digital transactions in this academic section, a payment portal shall be introduced on institute website for all  academic receipts to be paid by digital means.”

He said that an NIC team would be requested to integrated the e-hospital project databases with POS machines.

AIIMS committee is in the process of framing a model agreement for POS machines in consultation with SBI. The accounting procedure to calculate revenue from POS machines will be issued separately.

"Now patients will be able to opt for cashless transactions while visiting OPD. Though cash will also be accepted, State Bank of India would be requested to reconcile the amounts to be deposited with POS machines with AIIMS account," Sriniwas said.

AIIMS would seek registration with PAYTM and the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for digital transition. The use of USSD will also be promoted for people having generic phones.

AIIMS spokesman Dr Amit Gupta said that for enhancing awareness among patients, a patient awareness counter will also be set up at RAK OPD/ PRC of AIIMS.

He said a committee comprising of medical superintendent Dr DK Sharma and senior financial advisor Raj Kumar will be constituted to oversee the timely implementation of the use of digital means for financial transitions.
