CDSCO to regulate adhesives for fixing wigs on scalp

Rohit Shishodia
Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) is taking steps to regulate products like adhesives for fixing wigs on scalp or hair, products which are used for cleansing scalps and artificial nail systems as cosmetic.

This has come after CDSCO received applications for grant of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for import of such products. After considering applications for NOCs, the CDSCO concluded that these products are covered under definition of Cosmetic as per Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

A recent public notice issued by DCG (I) Dr VG Somani reads that products like adhesives which are used for fixing wigs on scalp or hair  and products which are to be used for cleansing scalps will be considered under the category named, “Products for Temporary Hair” which is already mentioned in the column 3 of the guidelines for imports of cosmetics.

With regards to artificial nails, it has been decided to incorporate a new category named “Artificial Nails Systems” in column 3 of the guidelines for import of cosmetics in order to follow the requirement of Bureau of Indian Standards.

The CDSCO has also sought public comments on its email id within thirty days of publication of this notice.
