Safdarjung docs call off strike after meeting with MS

 BS RAWAT
NEW DELHI : Resident doctors of Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi, called off their strike and resumed duties on Monday after the hospital administration assured them that their concerns over adequate security and related problems will be duly addressed.

In a communiqué to the medical superintendent of the Safdarjung Hospital, the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) had said, “With deep regret we wish to inform you that a female resident doctor was beaten on emergency duty in the hospital on Sunday night at 10 pm by patients and their relatives for no fault of the doctor.”

The letter read, “All this happened in presence of inefficient male security guards as no female security guard was present on duty. So, we are going on an indefinite strike including non essential as well as essential services with immediate effect till our all demands are fulfilled.”

Their demands include lodging of an institutional FIR, adequate penal action on assaulters, beefing up of security, compulsory rotation of guards and placement of female security guards in all the shifts.

The MS had met the RDA delegation in the morning. He immediately enhanced the security and filed police complaint against the culprits. He also hoped that the RDA would end its strike in view of the problems being faced by the patients.

The RDA doctors called off their strike and conveyed the same to the medical superintendent of the hospital.
