Odd-even is not solution to air pollution: SC

 DTMT Network
The Indian Supreme Court has said that implementation of the odd-even scheme in the national capital is not the solution to curb levels of air pollution in Delhi. Expressing concern over the severe air quality in the national capital, the apex court observed that it is difficult to breath in such air.

The SC reprimanded the Delhi government for the rising air pollution in the national capital which remained engulfed in thick smog. A special bench of justices headed by Arun Mishra was told by the representatives of Central Pollution Control Board that cars only contribute 3% to the air pollution while all vehicles contribute 28% pollution to the air pollution.

The court was informed that implementation of odd-even has reduced the level of air pollution from 5% to 15%. In response, the court said that implementation of odd-even scheme is not the permanent solution to tackle air pollution, especially when cars contribute 3% of air pollution.

The court has also directed the central government for preparing a road map to install air purifying towers across Delhi to address the problem.
