To enhance patients' access to secondary and tertiary care, the Delhi government has approved a plan to construct three new government hospitals. These hospitals will be located in Madipur, Hastsal and Jwalapuri areas of the national capital.

Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister of Delhi Mr Manish Sisodia-headed  Expenditure Finance Committee approved the projects on November 18, 2019, and the construction of the hospitals is expected to commence in the next two months.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain informed that each of the three hospitals will have around 650 beds as per the initial plan, thereby adding 1950 hospital beds in Delhi.

The location of these three hospitals has been selected given their high population density and lack of government hospital facility in proximity. Madipur is located in West Delhi and is an urban slum area. Hastsal (near Vikaspuri) and Jwalapuri (in Nangloi) are inhabited by urban, rural and semi-urban population.

Jain said “Our aim is free and quality healthcare for all patients, regardless of their income status. To achieve this aim, increasing access to healthcare is of paramount importance. We want to bring healthcare provision close to people’s home so that they don’t have to spend their money on travelling or on private facilities.”

He further said, “We want to increase the number of beds so that no patient is denied care because of unavailability of services. Strengthening public healthcare provisions is mandatory for any state which wants to benefit its residents.”
