AIIMS: Proposal to review tuition fees, user charges

NEW DELHI: Treatment and study in medicine at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) are likely to get costlier. The institute, in its latest office memorandum to all heads of centers and departments has requested to submit details of all fees and user charges to be revised.
The Central Institute Body (CIB) of six AIIMS also requested all concerned to send the rate-chart, to F & CAO (Main) by November 25, 2019, for analysis, compilation and approval of SFC & GB. Soft copy may also be sent to the institute.
Mr Narinder Bhatia, Financial Advisor of the AIIMS in the memorandum said that while fixing the rates of user charges, the departments must ensure that the user charges recover the current cost of providing services with reasonable return on capital investment.
He also advised that the rate of user charges should be linked with appropriate price indices and reviewed at least every three years.
In order to enable ease of revision of user charges, the rate of user charges shall be fixed, wherever possible, through rules or executive orders and not through a statute, the memorandum read.
AIIMS-Delhi, RDA General Secretary, Dr Rajeev Ranjan, told DTMT, the memorandum is only for proposals. "We are looking closely on it" he added.
Dr Ranjan demanded that a member of students union and RDA should also be put in the committee, so that they can justify or raise the concern.
