Cancer most sought treatment under Ayushman Bharat

As many as 83,772 patients across India have availed inpatient treatment for medical oncology under Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna, popularly known as Ayushman Bharat.

India’s Health Ministry has sanctioned Rs 4877 crore under the scheme for treatment of cancer under medical oncology. Medical Oncology is a modality of treatment in cancer care which uses chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormonal therapy and targeted therapy to treat cancer in an effective manner.

This information has been provided by Minister of State for Health Ashwini Kumar Choubey in Parliament on December 3, 2019.

And, 61,754 patients have availed inpatient treatment for hip internal fixation in hospitals under the scheme. Hip internal fixation involves stabilizing broken bones with surgical screws, nails, rods, or plates.

According to the minister, as on November 27, 2019, as many as 46,889 patients needing single stent for cardiology ailments have sought inpatient treatment in hospitals.

15,282, patients have been admitted for Coronary artery bypass grafting under the scheme. 18,243 patients have availed treatment for neo-natal ailments under the scheme. 11695 patients have been admitted for total knee replacement under the most ambitious scheme that provides free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh in government and private hospitals.

The government has sanctioned more than a thousand crore rupees for treatment under the scheme for the top ten diseases included under Ayushman Bharat.
