UP: Stress management workshops for school kids

DTMT Network
School children in Uttar Pradesh will now learn ways to tackle pressure of the upcoming annual exams. This has come after the Uttar Pradesh government directed all chief medical officers to direct clinical psychologists, psychiatrist and social workers to organize workshops in government schools on stress management and development of coping skills.

Workshops are expected to be organized on every Saturday. In a letter to the Chief Minister's Office, Mr Sunil Pandey, UP's Nodal Officer for Mental Health, stated that the students face anxiety and become stressful due to exam pressure.

He urged the CMOs that clinical psychologists and psychiatrist social workers appointed under National Mental Health Program should be directed to organize workshops and educate children to tackle stress in schools. He said that children should be motivated not to take pressure of exams.

He said that students feel pressure to fulfill the expectations of parents to perform well and score high marks in the exams. Pandey pointed out that addressing students’ fear through workshops and development of coping skills will ease their pressure to take the exam.

It is learnt that the health department of the state will take help of district inspector of schools and basic Shiksha Adhikaris to conduct the workshops.

It is seen that students who fail to clear exams or perform poorly in exams, come under pressure. Some students become isolated and take extreme steps such as suicide.
