Delhi: Over 1000 cancer survivors spread awareness

NEW DELHI: Over 1,000 cancer survivors, children, doctors and residents of Delhi and other NCR cities came together to drive a ‘Beat the Cancer’ Awareness program in Delhi.
The day-long program, organized by BLK Hospital, Delhi, in association with the New Delhi Municipal Council and Spring Hope Cancer Foundation, was aimed at creating awareness among people.
The participants shared their experiences, showcasing their battle for life in the form of Play, Dance and a Fashion Show. Doctors and residents also discussed the importance of being aware of the risk of breast cancer.
Dr. Surender Dabas, Director - Surgical Oncology, said, “The main attraction of today’s program was performances by the survivors themselves as they narrated their experience both through performances and dialogue with the audience.”
“The objective was to create awareness among people about the availability of advanced facilities, treatment and care,” he added.
Dr Dabas stated, “During our year long KCNC program, we found one person with precancerous cells out of every 16 healthy people screened in these camps, which is quite alarming.”
On the occasion, BLK Hospital launched the next leg of its Community Outreach Programme- ‘Know Cancer, No Cancer (KCNC)’ and unveiled the findings of the year-long Cancer Screening and awareness campaign in which it screened nearly 50,000 people spread across Delhi-NCR and neighbouring states.
