People using tablet meant for docs for corona protection

At a time when doctors have advised people to not to take any medicine as protection from corona virus, people are circulating a what'sapp message of taking hydroxy-chloroquine tablet as a preventive measure to save themselves from corona virus that has infected more than seven hundred and killed seventeen in India.
It may be noted that this tablet has been recommended by ICMR only for doctors treating patients with corona virus Or for those caring fir corona patients. A National Taskforce for COVID-19 constituted by ICMR has recommended the use of hydroxy- chloroquine for prophylaxis of corona infection for high risk population. The high risk population includes asymptomatic healthcare workers involved in the care of suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19. They also include asymptomatic household contacts of laboratory confirmed cases.
It is understood that such spread of message of taking the medicine as precaution from corona virus can result in shortage of the medicine which is only meant for doctors.
However, people are not aware of it and they can rush toward the chemist shops to purchase the medicine and start self medication.
According to the government advisory, the medicine can only be given on prescription recommended by the qualified medical practitioner
But the does not seem enforceable when people purchase different antibiotics from chemists because of poor law enforcement in states.
Dr Ravi Wankhedkar told DTMT that taking this tablet without consulting a doctor and not having corona virus can have a lot of side effects.
The side effects include blurred vision, blisters, dark urine, decreased urination, chest discomfort, dizziness or fainting and uneven heart beat.
Dr Wankhedker added what is more serious is that general people taking the medicine as protection from corona virus will lead to shortage of the medicine.
