BHAGALPUR:
Junior resident doctors at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) have been warned by the District Magistrate of Bhagalpur, Bihar, of strict action if they refuse to perform their duties in the isolation wards for treating COVID-19 patients.

In a letter to the director of the medical college, the DM has warned: “Give details of the doctors including name, father name, permanent address and mobile number so that it will be provided to the Enforcement Cell for strict action.”

“Also enclosed a copy of the attendant registers of the junior doctors for action against IPC Act 188 and under Bihar Epidemic Diseases, COVID-19 Regulation 2020 and Epidemic Diseases 1897 Act-3,” the letter reads.

The lack of basic personal protective equipment has led to junior doctors and other health workers threatening not to go for examining those suspected of having COVID-19.

According to sources, the doctors were given HIV kits instead of PPEs and there were no facilities, equipment and no sanitisers, just empty bottles.

There were several instances of poor protection for doctors and other health workers across Bihar who are examining suspected cases of the deadly disease.

Medical teams have been forced to wear raincoats in the absence of safety kits, while they examined migrant workers who had reached the area last week.
