Delhi: Entire GTB Hospital only for corona patients

With a surge in the number of coronavirus infection cases expected in the East Delhi, the City government has decided to convert Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital with 1500 beds into a fully dedicated Covid-19 centre.

"To augment further the availability of beds in designated COVID hospitals of Delhi government, it has been decided to declare GTB Hospital as designated COVID hospital with its full bed capacity of 1,500 beds," stated an order issued by Padmini Singla, Secretary Health, Delhi.

The health secretary directed the medical superintendent to convert the hospital into a designated Covid facility with its full  beds capacity of 1500 beds by June 2, 2020.

"The admitted general patients may be shifted to nearby Delhi government hospitals and patients requiring specialised treatment to private hospitals. The bills of private hospitals shall be paid by the Delhi Government at Delhi Aarogya Kosh rates," it added.

In an earlier order dated May 29, the Delhi Government has asked the GTB Hospital to convert 500 beds for Covid-19 patients by June 2.
