Covid scare: Delhi Govt. seals borders for one week

The Delhi government on June 1, 2020, sealed its borders with Uttar Pradesh and Haryana for one week to prevent the spread of corona cases in the National Capital. The decision to seal borders was taken in view of increasing corona cases and availability of limited dedicated hospital beds.
In a digital press conference on June 1, 2020, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “We are sealing our borders for one week. Essential services will continue. Government officers will continue to come by showing the identity cards.”
Kejriwal added that further decision to continue to seal or open borders will be taken after taking suggestions from people of Delhi.
He pointed out that if borders are opened then people from every part of the country will rush to the city for seeking treatment as treatment is provided free of cost in all government hospitals in Delhi.
“If we open borders, then people will come from everywhere to get treatment. This will create chaos as the dedicated beds available for treatment of Covid will be occupied,” he added.
The chief minister sought suggestions from people through whatsapp number-8800007722, email on Delhicm.suggestions@gmail.com and by recording suggestions on 1031 by Friday 5 pm.
