 BS RAWAT
As the number of cases and deaths due to Covid-19 continue to rise in the national capital, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority has directed all district magistrates to identify suitable accommodation for fresh patients and land for additional capacity of cremation and burial.

A letter written by DDMA Additional CEO Rajesh Goyal to all the district heads said, “In view of the increasing number of Covid-19 patients in Delhi, it is imperative to plan in advance for enhancing the capacity of Covid beds and also to identify additional cremation and burial grounds."

DTMT accessed a copy of the letter to the DMs which has not just mentioned identification of space for burial grounds and locations for cremation but also the space for putting up extra beds for accommodating the rising number of Covid-19 patients.

The letter further instructed DMs to provide information at top priority about "indoor air-conditioned location preferably large multipurpose halls/ Banquet Halls/ Indoor stadiums etc. for putting up extra beds for  Covid-19 patients along with the capacity of each such location."

The letter also seeks information about the present location of cremation/ burial grounds as well as additionally identified locations/ lands for cremation/ burial grounds which are reasonably away from residential areas.

All the DMs have been asked to provide the information by 4 pm on June 3.
