Delhi, which reported almost four thousand corona cases on June 23, 2020, for the previous 24 hours, has recorded a major decline in cases with just 1379 cases in the past 24 hours reported in the evening of July 6, 2020.

The decline in cases is despite an increase in testing which shows that corona transmission has slowed in different areas of the national capital. This was also pointed out by experts that Delhi has reached its Covid peak.

According to the Delhi government's latest data, 13879 tests, including RTPCR and Rapid Antigen tests, were conducted in the past 24 hours.

Significantly, Delhi has also reported a major drop in the number of Covid deaths.

As per the July 6 evening data, for the past 24 hours, 48 people succumbed to Covid-19 in Delhi, far less than the 63 deaths the previous day and the 71 deaths in a day a week ago. The lesser number of fatalities has raised hopes that deaths and cases may further decline and give relief to Delhities who have been battling and living in fear of corona for five months. As on July 6, 2020, Delhi has recorded a cumulative total of 100823 cases and 3115 deaths.

The present improvement in the situation can be attributed to the efforts and steps by Delhi and Central governments. These steps include ensuring more Covid beds in private and government hospitals, setting up of more quarantine centers and attaching them with hospitals, home isolation of patients and provision of oxy pulse meters to home isolated patients to monitor level of oxygen, random and increased testing in colonies outside containment zones, better management of cremation of dead bodies which were piling up in hospitals and coordination among Delhi government, Centre and Civic agencies to handle the situation.

Of course, it has been also reported that the coronavirus has run out of steam in Delhi as parts of the national capital approaches herd immunity due to which there are less and less cases and less deaths as the days and weeks go by.
