COVID-19: Uttarakhand to recruits 1,020 nurses

Continuing efforts to ramp-up the healthcare workforce in the fight against COVID-19, the Uttarakhand Government on Friday said over 1,020 nurses will be recruited in various state government hospitals.


The decision was taken in a meeting of the state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Trivendra Rawat. Considering the need of hospitals, it has been decided to make this recruitment based on urgency.

After the cabinet meeting, government spokesperson Madan Kaushik said in a statement that the health department needs a total of 5500 nurses under IPHS standards.h There are only around 1500 staff nurses in the state at present.

He informed that under IPHS standards, about four thousand nurses are to be recruited to hospitals. However, the state government has decided to recruit only 1020 nurses on the basis of urgency.

Mr Kausik said that details of vacancy of hospitals for recruitment of nurses have not been sought. After the recruitment, these nurses can be deployed on the basis of need. Recruitment will be regular and soon its proposal will be sent to Uttarakhand Medical Selection Commission.
