Bihar goes into 16-day, July 16-31 Lockdown

 BS RAWAT

The Bihar government has announced a 16-day state-wide coronavirus lockdown from July 16 to 31 to contain the alarming surge in COVID-19 positive cases in the state.

The Home Department of Bihar Government has ordered all city municipalities, district headquarters and block headquarters to stay under lockdown for a period of 16 days with effect from July 16.

During the 16-day lockdown, shops selling groceries, vegetables, milk and dairy products, and meat will be allowed to function, a government order said.

The fresh restrictions include curb on public transport within the state and hosting of mass activities that are conducive to the spread of the disease.

Air and rail transport services will remain functional, as will taxis and auto-rickshaws. Private vehicles will also be allowed, but only for permitted activities.

The state authorities have encouraged (and will facilitate) home delivery of essential goods to minimize movement of people.
