MCI cautions students seeking admission in Singhania 'varsity

The Medical Council of India (MCI) has issued a notice cautioning students to check the status of Jhunjhunu based Singhania University before seeking admission in MBBS, MBBS integrated, MD and various diploma courses as it is not recognised by the council.

In a public notice, the MCI has cautioned the students, parents and general public of the country about "unapproved medical institution" operating in Pacheri Bari, District Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan.

Various streams of medicine are being run without MCI permission, the notice says, and in particular, debunks the university claim referring to certain HC judgment that the state medical council has to recognize such degrees.

The public notice said that the MCI Board of Governors went on to particularly point out that the said university stands in violation of the MCI provisions, running unrecognized courses in modern medicine, adding that medical practice by any degree holder of the said courses from the Singhania university would amount to quackery.

“It may be noted that the claim made by the Singhania University is in violation of the provisions of the MCI Act 1956 and the regulations framed thereunder. Accordingly, any admissions that are made by the Singhania University, Pacheri Bari, Distt. Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, in the courses of medicine (MBBS) is illegal and void ab initio,” the notice reads.

Earlier, MCI had issued notice to Singhania University, Rajasthan, and also Surendra Medical College and Hospital, Khagol, near Patna, for conducting medical entrance examinations.
