ASHA workers booked for protest at Jantar Mantar

The Delhi Police has registered a case against the accredited social health activist (ASHA) workers who had gathered for an unauthorised protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi in violation of Unlock-3 guidelines in effect to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Kavita Yadav, Delhi coordinator for Asha workers, told DTMT, “We have been informed by twitter about the FIR registered against us, and are trying to find out details. If the police have registered a FIR, it is extremely unfortunate and we condemn it.”
She argued that ASHA workers are on the frontlines, reporting symptomatic patients, tracking those in quarantine and from abroad, and conducting contact tracing.
“But when we demand our rights, the authorities have booked us for violating social distancing norms. This is not justified,” Ms Yadav stated.
"During the lockdown period many political party leaders violated social distancing norm. How many of them were put behind bars?" she asked.
"FIR registered against unauthorised protesters of Asha Workers and Central Trade Unions who gathered at Jantar Mantar in violation of Unlock guidelines. Protests are strictly banned at Jantar Mantar. Such gatherings can worsen the COVID-19 situation @CPDelhi @LtGovDelhi @PMOIndia," Delhi Police PRO Eish Singhal, tweeted.
Accredited Social Health Activists (Asha) have been crucial in the fight against the disease, and a majority of them in the city have been on strike since July 21, demanding better wages.
The FIR was registered at the Parliament Street police station under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, Section 3 of the Epidemic Disease Act and Section 51B of the Disaster Management Act, said Eish Singhal.
