Cases of coronavirus are surging rapidly across India indicating that the country may record an upsurge in fresh cases in coming days. Most of the patients are, however, recovering from the disease. In the past 24 hours, India reported 56,383 recoveries and 66999 new patients.

As per an Indian Health Ministry press release, with increasing number of recoveries the recovery rate has crossed 70% (70.77% on August 13, 2020). The case mortality among Covid patients has further regressed to 1.96%, and is steadily declining.

The ministry has informed that India touched another peak of highest ever single day recoveries of 56,383 in a single day. With this number, the total recovered Covid-19 patients is nearly 17 lakh (16, 95,982).

The ministry has stated that the record high recoveries have ensured that the actual caseload of the country, which is the active cases has reduced and currently is only 27.27% of the total positive cases. The recoveries exceed the active cases (6,53,622) by more than 10 lakh.

The ministry has credited the concerted, focused and collaborative efforts of the center and the state and union territories governments along with support of lakhs of frontline workers which has ensured the successful implementation of aggressive testing, comprehensive tracking and efficient treating through an array of measures including supervised home isolation, and effective clinical management of severe and critical patients.
