Haryana allows 'on demand' corona tests on payment basis

Following the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) okay to allow ‘on-demand’ Covid-19 tests, without requiring a doctor’s prescription, the Manohar Lal Khattar government in Haryana too has issued a notification allowing this.

“It is hereby directed to ensure designation of a separate place/center/area for Covid-19 testing for individuals, who wish to get themselves tested for Covid-19 due to non-medical reasons,” said a notice issued by the Director General Health Services.

The notice further stated that such facilities would be made available for international/interstate travel, requirement for employment purposes, admissions in educational institutions so as to decrease the risk of spread of infection to such individuals.

“As per the decision of the state government, this facility would be made available to such individuals on payment basis,” it added.

To ramp up testing, the state health department has set the cost of RT-PCR test to Rs1, 600. For rapid antigen test too, the labs can charge only Rs 650, while for antibody test the cost is Rs 250.

The notice informed, “It is clarified that any person requiring Covid-19 testing for medical reasons shall be not charged anything at any government health facility.”
