Corona drugs: DoP concerned over black marketing

Raising concern over the issue of black marketing and over pricing of Remdesivir and Tocilizumab drugs, the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) has asked all pharma associations to ensure that the drug, which is being used in the treatment of Coronavirus patients, is not sold above its MRP.

Chairing a meeting to review the implementation of the Uniform Code of Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices in Delhi, secretary, DoP, Dr PD Vaghela, has mentioned that such practices need to be stopped and requested associations to take adequate steps against such members.

Through video conferencing, he also suggested that a meeting may be called at the level of joint secretary (P) with the wholesalers and distributors as the issue cannot be resolved without their support.

Dr Vaghela further suggested that there should be a system of close coordination between the manufacturers and All Indian Origin Chemists & Distributors to avoid such malpractices.

Representatives of FICCI stated that the medical device industry should have a separate code. lPA demanded very strict action should be taken against anyone found guilty of such malpractices of hoarding and black-marketing.

OPPI has suggested designing a distribution model using the expertise of Indian vaccine manufacturers to ensure availability of vaccines developed to reach every Indian.

MTAI has requested permission for making a presentation on marketing code for medical devices.

NPPA suggested a Central Helpline for ensuring proper distribution of Remdesivir and Tocilizumab.
