Angered over an assault on a colleague in hospital, resident doctors at Maharishi Valmiki Hospital in Delhi’s Pooth Khurd area have urged the hospital director to initiate action against the person involved in the assault under the Disaster Management Act.

The assault on doctors has once again exposed the poor security for doctors in government hospitals in Delhi. This doctor was attacked amid the ongoing Covid pandemic when assaulting and abusing doctors attracts heavy fine and jail.

In a letter to the director, the Resident Doctors Association has stated that Dr Rahul Jain was doing a minor OT procedure and urged other patient Ms Priyanka and her attendant Mr Naresh to wait.

According to the RDA, both Ms Priyanaka and Mr Naresh did not wear a mask and Dr Rahul was directed to wear the mask.

This apparently did not go down well with them. After some arguments, they started beating Dr Jain. The RDA said that they threw a stool at the doctor but he luckily escaped.

“We request you to initiate action against them under the Disaster Management Act without any delay so that in future this sort of incident does not occur,” said the RDA.
