Forda asks Jain for institutional FIR in assault on doc

The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (Forda)-India has urged Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain to ensure an institutional FIR against the accused in the assault on a doctor at Maharishi Valmiki Hospital in Puth Khurd, Delhi.

It may be noted that the Resident Doctors Association of this hospital had earlier demanded action against the accused under the Epidemic Diseases Act.

The doctor, Dr Rahul Jain, Senior Resident, was performing a minor OT procedure in the OPD and urged a lady patient and her attendant to wait and directed them to wear a mask due to ongoing Covid pandemic. This had not gone down well with the patient and they attacked the doctor.

In a letter to Jain, Forda stated, “We are facing an epidemic of attack.”

The doctors' association has added that in spite of a directive of the Government of Delhi, no institutional FIR has been lodged by the concerned hospital authority. The Forda-India lamented that despite putting the most productive years of life in service of mankind and society, the medical fraternity is left with mere resentment observing such callous attitude towards them.

“While condemning the assault in strongest terms, Forda expresses its solidarity with the protesting Resident Doctors of Maharishi Valmiki Hospital and urges upon the Government of NCT of Delhi to take immediate measures to ensure that Institutional FIR is lodged and strict punishment under relevant section of the Epidemic Diseases Act is meted out,” demanded Forda-India.
