Defying all odds posed by age related issues, Basanti Patra, 93, from Odisha, has recovered from Covid-19, which is known to be life threatening for aged people.

Patra was first isolated at home when she tested positive for Covid on October 2, 2020. Considering her age and other issues, she was admitted to SUM Covid Hospital in Bhubaneswar. Now, on October 12, 2020, she has recovered from the disease and inspires all people that this infectious disease can be beaten at any age.

Patra is not the first patient in the nineties who has recovered from Covid. Earlier, in September 2020, two more patients who were also over ninety years of age, had recovered from the virus.

Doctors say that unless a vaccine is developed the only solution of Covid is prevention measures which include wearing face mask, hand hygiene and physical distancing. They say people with preexisting conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart diseases etc. should stay home to avoid getting the disease.

It is understood that most Covid fatalities are related to comorbidities. The disease has killed over one lakh and infected over 71 lakh in India so far.
