Unpaid salaries: Delhi Docs on indefinite hunger strike

Five resident doctors of Hindu Rao Hospital in Delhi have gone on indefinite hunger strike against the non-payment of their salary for the last four months.

The doctors began their hunger strike outside the hospital from 4 pm on October 23, 2020. The doctors have committed that they wouldn’t end their strike unless their pending salary is paid.

They have expressed anger against the hospital management. They said that they decided to go on hunger strike after indifferent, unsatisfactory and cold response from the administration. "This is utter shame for the nation,” tweeted the doctors.

It may be noted that 400 resident doctors of HRH were barred from entering the hospital in the morning. Left with no option, they  started their protest outside the hospital and remained firm.

They had earlier informed the hospital medical superintendent that if they are not paid their due salary they would go on hunger strike. The doctors have been on partial strike at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar for the last 19 days, but all in vain.

The resident doctors of HRH have not been paid for the last four months. The non-payment of their salary for such a long time has put them in financial crisis as they are struggling to take care of their basic needs.

RDA President Dr Abhimanyu Sardana said that so far no initiative has been taken for payment of pending salary. "We only want our salary which is our basic right", he added.
