Senior and resident doctors of North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) have ended their strike after release of 3-months' salary on October 28, 2020. The salary was released after a meeting of all doctors with the NDMC Commissioner.

The fruitful result of getting their basic right of salary has come after long struggling efforts of resident doctors of Hindu Rao hospital which included a strike for the last 24 days and a hunger strike of five resident doctors for the last five days. Senior doctors of all NDMC-run health facilities had also stopped working since October 27, 2020, in protest against three months' unpaid salary.

The resident doctors broke their fast as NDMC Mayor offered them juice. This brought much-needed joy to doctors who had been struggling with the unpaid salary issue.

“Municipal Corporation Doctor’s Association (MCDA) and Resident Doctors Association take pleasure in informing that due to help and cooperation of all concerned salary of last three months has been released. The administration has also agreed for timely release of salary in future,” reads a press release issued by MCDA.

The doctors have informed that further, the administration has agreed that various issues of hospital administration and doctors will be reviewed quarterly at the level of additional commissioner (Health).

"MCDA and RDA would like to inform that as a result of above developments, the strike has been suspended and all doctors in all institutions will resume work with immediate effect," said MCDA.

Dr Maruti Sinha, General Secretary, MCDA, specially thanked Drug Today Medical Times which regularly raised their plight of not getting the salary.

“Had it not been your efforts, we would still have been struggling,” she told DTMT.
