Pregnant women will not get Covid vaccine: Govt.

 Rohit Shishodia

“Pregnant and lactating women have not been part of any Covid 19 vaccine clinical trial so far. Therefore, women who are pregnant and not sure of their pregnancy and lactating should not receive Covid vaccine at this time,” read precautions and contraindications released recently to states and UTs.

The ministry has said that Covid vaccine is indicated only for those who are 18 years and above. It further added that vaccines should be administered with caution in persons with history of any bleeding or coagulation disorder.

“Persons having active symptoms of Covid 19 should be deferred for 4-8 weeks after recovery. Covid patients who have been given anti-SARS-CoV-2 monoclonal antibodies or convalescent plasma and patients who are actually unwell and hospitalized (with or without intensive care) should also be deferred for 4-8 weeks after recovery,” said the ministry.

The ministry has pointed out that persons with history of anaphylactic or allergic reactions to a previous dose of Covid vaccine and immediate or delayed onset anaphylaxis or allergic reactions to vaccines or injectable therapies, pharmaceutical products and food items must not be given Covid vaccines.
