Manish Kumar, a 36-year-old cleaning machine operator and one of the frontline workers at Delhi-AIIMS, became the first person to get a shot of Covaxin at the Institute.

Kumar told DTMT that he is fine after getting the vaccine shot and does not have any side effect.

Kumar was vaccinated in presence of India's Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, Dr VK Paul, Chairperson,  Vaccine Task Force, and Delhi -AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria.

"As far as my health is concerned. I am happy and fine. It has been two to three hours since I got the dose. There has not been any pain in my hand. I have not felt any itching or fainting. My friends and others known to me will now get the vaccine."

"My mother was concerned ... I managed to convince her that nothing would happen to me. I urge all people to come forward and get the vaccine shot. They should not worry and should not be afraid."

Laxmi Rani, Manish's mother, who works in the house keeping department at Delhi-AIIMS, told DTMT that she was initially nervous but gradually agreed to his appeal for getting the vaccine.

Appearing nervous about the health of her son, she stressed that it was like she was sending her son to the border to fight the enemy.
