The Southern Railways have lauded Dr R Priyanka, who first conducted a successful delivery of a Covid positive pregnant mother and then gave mouth-to-mouth respiration to the baby who had developed respiratory problems. This happened at the New Railway Hospital in Perambur, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

A letter of appreciation was issued by John Thomas, General Manager, Southern Railways. Thomas came to know about the case from Principal Chief Medical Director of Southern Railways.

According to the letter issued to Dr Priyanka, a pregnant woman who was Covid positive had developed labor pain in the early morning of March 24, 2021.

Dr Priyanka rushed to the hospital and conducted the delivery of a four kilogram baby.
“It is also learnt that in an ambulance, when the baby had developed a sudden respiratory problem you conducted mouth to mouth respiration. The dedication that you showed in treating a patient who was in critical condition, is commendable. It is also very commendable that you did without caring for your own safety as the patient was Covid positive,” reads the letter.

“I am sure that with this attitude and dedication, you will be very successful as a doctor and will be of great service to society. Kindly keep up this spirit throughout your professional career as a doctor,” reads the letter.
