India’s Health Ministry has informed that there is 85% reduction in chances of hospitalization after corona vaccination.

Addressing the media on April 13, 2021, Dr Balram Bhargava, DG, ICMR, said that it needs to be understood that corona vaccines are disease-modifying vaccines. After both doses are administered, antibodies develop and chances of infection gets lower, he added.

Dr Bhargava added that chances of severe infection and death are lower and there is 85% reduction in chances of hospitalization after vaccination, he pointed out.

The ministry also clarified its stand on rising shortage of vaccines in centers due to which people are returning without vaccination.

India’s Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that till now the health ministry has provided 131090000 doses to states and union territories.

He informed that on the one hand states like Kerala have zero wastage of vaccines and on the other hand, there are states which have 8-9% wastage of vaccines.

Referring to a data of 16720000 utilized doses with states and UTs, the health secretary has emphasized that the data clearly shows that the issue is about better planning and not the shortage of vaccines.

Informing about the corona situation on April 13, 2021, Bhushan said that in Maharashtra average daily cases, week on week have grown significantly and reached a level of 57000 plus.

He added that tests are growing but not keeping pace with growth of average daily cases. If you look at the share of RT-PCR tests, It is progressively coming down,” he said.

As per the Ministry, weekly positivity in case of Chhattisgarh is increasing. From one and a half per cent, it has increased to 27.9% almost 28% which is a cause of concern.
